Studio Zeeslak is an illustration and animation studio set up by me, Demi, a creator living in Haarlem, the Netherlands. All work is handmade ór digitally created with a handmade feel to it. As a tribute to touchable materials. To rough paper and flowing ink.

In my work, I’m often looking for things to wonder about or marvel at. Weird stuff that tickles the mind or makes you look just a bit longer. Sometimes clear in plain sight, sometimes in the details, to be discovered. These can be small things, like for example: why do so few people eat ice cream in the winter? Or bigger things, like question why times passes by differently when you feel different or what fungi can do to help with addressing the climate crisis. That’s also why I like to combine stuff in my work that doesn’t (neccesarily) makes sense, like a guy in a diver suit in a ferris wheel, sea slugs on a rooftop gathering or tropical birds in a frozen environment: they’re invitations to be curious.

In case you are wondering why a sea slug with a space helmet on is the logo, I invite you to search for images or videos of sea slugs (Zeeslak is Dutch for sea slug). They are amazing creatures living under water, but look like they came from space. They have crazy vibrant colors, weird shapes and very interesting techniques to support themselves. Felt like a good fit for a creative studio. I just gave the one in my logo a helmet, because he’s floating in outer space, and it seemed appropriate to provide him with the right gear to do so.
